Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary (PLTS), rooted in Berkeley, California, equips leaders in the Lutheran tradition for a complex and changing world thru degree and non-degree certificate programs for those seeking rostered ministry in the ELCA as pastors and deacons; and for lay leaders. Through distributed learning, PLTS is living more fully into its mission—making theological education accessible to students wherever they are called to serve. Our programs include: Master of Divinity, Master of Arts in Spirituality & Social Change, Theological Education for Emerging Ministries, Theological Education for Indigenous Leaders, Certificate of Theological Studies, Certificate in Climate Justice & Faith, and Certificate in Racial Justice & Faith. This is a pivotal moment in the life of the seminary as PLTS transitions into a fully distributed learning teaching model in the Fall of 2026 while expanding its programs. A new Certificate in Church Leadership launches this fall, directed by Rev. Dr. Sheryl Johnson, equipping lay leaders for ministry in today’s church. Your gift sustains our students through scholarships, supports exceptional faculty, and strengthens the infrastructure needed to deliver accessible, high-quality theological education—now and into the future.
